From Dream to Reality

  • In October 2018 a group of folks got together at the Anderson Township Government Center and talked about the possibility of starting a community garden on what was known then as “The Upper Property” of the Anderson Township Historical Society. That meeting had about a dozen people from all walks of life: community volunteers, retirees, landscape professionals, small business owners and students, who came up with a plan to put in 36 garden plots on the property the following spring. By early 2019 we had tilled the area, marked off the plots, run water lines from the cistern to the garden, and weeded the grounds. At that time we officially became the Anderson Urban Farm. We celebrated our accomplishment with the first annual “Seed Bash,” attracting over 300 people who came for a day of music, food and education. From that first year the Anderson Urban Farm’s motto has been “Come Grow With Us” and we invite you to do just that.
